In terms of fashion, it’s never a bad thing to be ahead of the curve. For me, it’s often out of necessity to make room for a new season of style. I recently bought a pair of Jeffrey Campbell cut-out wedges that will replace some pair of summer shoes that were otherwise not earning their keep (fashionably speaking). For a preview of what else I’m thinking to rotate into my wardrobe, keep reading!
I know Fashion Week isn’t for another month and a half but I just couldn’t keep myself from researching fall trends when I started seeing catwalk teasers. If you’re like me, some sweaters are for year-round and it’s nice to know what you’ll have in your closet long after the summer heat has gone away. For a list of other items you might not want to put into storage (or need to scoop up!), here’s a F/W 2012 preview!
East Meets West
As a frequent shopper at Asos, the world’s largest online-only fashion and beauty store, I receive their style news on a regular basis. I was delightfully surprised by the recent F/W ’12 trend report and appreciated their comprehensive report on what can be expected for next season. To start, who would have thought that Eastern-inspired pieces would be the next big thing?! From opalescent fabrics to kimono detailing, traditional Oriental motifs are going to be very popular come the fall.
Fear not prepsters and feminine/ romantic-types, this season’s “goth” isn’t the kind to terrify you. In fact, pairing the pieces that are making this season’s style famous with other pieces that compliment is the name of the game. Leather, lace, sheer and some Lana Del Ray wine-inspired lip color is all you need to nail this look. Still not completely convinced this style is safe? Show off some accessories that blend together like leather and lace or sheer and rouge.
Minimalist colors (like neutrals to tone-down the severity of a goth ensemble) and lines will help to make a statement in everything from jackets to pants. Be bold and try metallic-toned black, ‘ox-blood’ or rust colored tones. Take notes from Charlize Theron, Hayden Panetierre or Angelina Jolie who have been snapped in a number of textured styles. And don’t forget, accessories count too!
I have always loved the fall for the sole reason that army gear and brass buttons looks so chic against the burnt reds and yellows of fallen leaves. Cargo jackets, parkas and earth-toned components will ensure for a well-equipped mission into the fray that is F/W ’12. And it’s not just army green that is making a splash, navy pea coats and nautically-themed apparel will carry over onto the catwalks this season too.
Prints: Floral, geometric
Here’s a trend that is easy to wear whether you’re a conservative cutie or a floral fanatic. Prints are finally coming into their own after being so popular on jeans and other bottoms during S/S ’12. Prints this season are taking a slightly bolder approach in suiting and full-body rompers. Achieve this look with singular pieces by mixing prints that match a specific color scheme and faking a head-to-toe combination.
