If you’re the kind of city girl that knows the 21st Amendment is John Kerry’s favorite watering hole or that Faneuil Hall has been a marketplace (for more than just Urban Outfitters) since 1742, you probably know where to go and what to do at all times. But for those who are recent city-dwellers or have yet to explore the true meaning of ”The Hub”, here’s a socialite’s guide to the city. Keep reading, and have a pencil and (social) calendar ready to fill in!
Wednesday, July 25th: Which seat can I take?
Okay, okay, sorry for the Rebecca Black “Friday” reference, but in all seriousness, this Friday, Colbie Caillat, Gavin DeGraw, Enrique Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez and Winsin & Yandel will all be in town captivating audiences at the Bank of America Pavillion and TD Garden beginning at 7:30 pm. Now Latin music isn’t always my cup of tea but J. Lo’s had a big year and I’d love to see her in action. That being said, if anyone has an extra ticket, I know of a city girl who’d love to join you!
Thursday, July 26th: Rock the boat
I subscribe to the school of thought that if I’m going out on a Thursday night (a weeknight and therefore a work night) then my experience better be more than mediocre. In fact, if it’s not the kind of place I can wear my most recent fashion obsession, I’m most likely not interested. Wanna know what kind of thing that does interest me? The “Rock the Boat” Summer Party Cruise series. For $25-30 (depending on how early you sign up) and at least 21 years on the planet, you and your friends can enjoy an evening taking in the city view from Boston Harbor on a party boat hosted by radio station MIX 104.1. If you’re up for it, the pre-gaming begins at Sissy K’s and leaves from Commonwealth Pier promptly at 7:15 pm. Don’t be late!
Friday, July 27th: Be a street walker
If you’ve ever needed a good reason to leave the office early on a Friday, this is it. Normally I’d kick-off my shopping, I mean, weekend at H&M in Downtown Crossing any chance I get, but since discovering the cultural gem known as the “Summer Street Markets”, I’ve found a better cause to stimulate with my earnings. On Wednesdays and Fridays you too can enjoy all that the Downtown Crossing has to offer on Summer St., from 11 am-6 pm (such as a crafts market, jewelry, clothing, accessories and artisan food). And who knows, you might just end up in “Spotted”!
Saturday, July 28th: Promenade
Here’s another event that will have you on your feet (literally) and yes, it requires walking but since you live in arguably the (best and) most walkable city…get over it. The Summer Waterfront Sampler from 2-4 pm on the Rose Kennedy Greenway is a free experience of music, food trucks and activities that can be fun for the whole family! The event’s page boasts discounts for LevelUp members so download it today so you’re ready to go on Saturday!
Sunday, July 29th: Funday Sunday
My last “to do” list item of the week is another opportunity to take in the culture of Boston while stimulating the local economy and moving around. On Sunday the SoWa Open Market will be open from 10-4 with a plethora of indie designers, crafts, artists, musicians, farmers, food trucks and more. Sounds like the perfect way to spend a romantic Sunday on the cheap!
